About Debt Free Mimi
My husband and I have paid off debt three times during our 37 years of marriage while keeping a credit card just in case there was an emergency. We have just as easily gotten back into debt twice afterwards because we didn’t persevere in our goal to remain debt free, and we did not have a plan. Just before our younger daughters started college, the day before our first Financial Peace class back in 2012, I signed up for a parent loan to pay for one daughter’s college expenses and paid cash for the other. AND we bought a new car to make traveling back and forth to the college safer.
The tension from all these bills helped us decide to become debt free. We started creating margin in our budget, so we had small chunks of money to get out of debt. But then surprise – we had a real crisis moment that involved several years of unexpected medical bills for one child. The debt snowball became almost non-existent as we paid cash for the medical bills. Then when we didn’t have enough cash, the bills went on a credit card. It became a downward spiral. We were overwhelmed. We were burnt out. Before we could recuperate, we hit another crisis with my health that quickly caused us to reach the catastrophic level of my insurance. We then became very serious about becoming debt free.
In the fall 2019 we started using Ramsey’s Every Dollar Budget faithfully. After completing a survey about Every Dollar, we were given a free year of Ramsey Plus sometime in 2020. That helped us become more intense with our financial goals. Covid 19 also had a direct impact on our budget with less eating out and checks from the government. We began to soar above life’s hardships into being financially free. We paid off $65,116 of debt by May 2023.

Initial Consultation
Using the Dave Ramsey Steps and my personal experience, my role is to coach you to help bring discipline and perseverance that will put you in the driver’s seat of your financial peace.
I’m here to help you develop new habits and to change those that took money out of your control. I do this by helping you create financial margin in your life that assists you in creating goals: to get out of debt (including your house), follow a monthly budget that works for you, and save for emergencies, your kids college fund, or your retirement.
Financial Peace University
Your Financial Peace University virtual class Aug 8 – Oct 3 with Debt Free Mimi at 07:30pm (Eastern Time – US & Canada) on Thursday, August 8, 2024 is scheduled.
This 9 week virtual course will teach you step-by-step how to budget, beat debt, invest wisely, and take control of your money the Dave Ramsey way.
Classes start on Thursday, August 8th, and run for the next 8 weeks at the same time and place.
The course itself is free, but you will need to order the materials.
- Weekly videos need to be watched prior to our online group discussions that will occur weekly.
- One workbook is needed per couple.
- If in a relationship, both partners must attend.
On August 15th – October 3rd we will be using a different meeting invite. I will send that to you after the first class.
